Ch. OneIRestraint

Most work gets worse the more you add to it. We start from the smallest thing that could carry the idea and only grow it when something genuinely fails without the addition.

That means saying no to decoration that has no job. What is left has to hold up on its own, which is a harder standard but a much more durable one.

Ch. TwoIIRhythm

A page reads well when its spacing repeats. We set a measure early, keep everything on it, and resist the small one-off adjustments that quietly break the system a month later.

The same applies to motion. Timing that stays consistent across a site stops registering as animation and starts registering as the thing simply behaving properly.

Ch. ThreeIIIIntent

Every decision should be answerable. If we cannot say why an element is a particular size, in a particular place, at a particular moment, it has not been designed yet - it has been arranged.

We would rather hold a project open a week longer than ship something we cannot defend. The reasoning is part of the deliverable.

Ch. FourIVCraft

The gap between good and finished lives in details nobody is supposed to notice: the way a line breaks, the weight of a transition, the state a button takes when it is doing nothing at all.

Those are not extras. They are the difference between work that functions and work that feels considered, and they only come from going back over the same thing repeatedly.
